Sex offender offered after-hours gym lessons at Knox County high school

A convicted child molester was giving young girls private gymnastics lessons in the cafeteria of a Knox County high school immediately after classes ended, with school officials and system administrators none the wiser, officials confirmed last week.


Jeffrey Donald Keith, 42, is on the state’s sex offender registry, having been convicted in 1998 in Rhea County of molesting a 10-year-old girl. He later moved to Powell and set up shop as a private gymnastics instructor, court records show. He did not register with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender, those records allege.


Last March, members of KCSO’s Sex Offender Registry Enforcement Unit followed Keith from his home to Powell High School and watched as he walked into the school unimpeded just as regular classes ended, records show.
