February 22nd, 2013 3:52 pm by Wes Bunch

KINGSPORT — Sullivan County authorities were forced to perform a lake rescue at Warriors Path State Park Friday afternoon after an unidentified woman allegedly jumped into the water and refused to come out.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, central dispatch received a report at 2:17 p.m. that a woman had jumped from a dock at the park and into Fort Patrick Henry Lake.

The caller reportedly told authorities that the woman appeared to be distressed and struggling in the water.

Members of the SCSO Underwater Investigations Team who were training in the area responded to the call.

Officers reportedly tried to convince the woman to swim to shore, but authorities said she refused.

As a result, members of the team were reportedly forced to enter the water and pull the woman ashore.

She was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is "expected to be okay," authorities said.

The identity of the woman was not made public.
