Boys Basketball

Castlewood 70, Twin Valley 47

CASTLEWOOD — Tyler Austin and Reid Edmonds combined for 37 points to lead the top-seeded Castlewood boys team to a 70-47 win over Twin Valley on Tuesday in the Region D, Division 1 quarterfinals.

Coming off a loss to Eastside in the Cumberland District finals, Castlewood found success shooting the 3-pointer. The Blue Devils hit 13 of their 24 field goals from beyond the 3-point line.

Austin scored 19 points and Edmonds had 18. Ben Couch grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots for the Devils (17-6), who advanced to regional semifinals at Lebanon High School on Friday night. They will play tonight’s winner between Thomas Walker and Clintwood.

Christian Case scored 13 points for eighth-seeded Twin Valley, finishing 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Girls Basketball

Castlewood 64, Council 28

CASTLEWOOD — McKinley Isaacs scored 17 points to help the top-seeded Lady Blue Devils pick up a convincing win over the Lady Cobras in the Region D, Division 1  quarterfinals.

Coming off the bench, Isaacs led Castlewood in scoring while Kacie Jessee posted 10 rebounds and five points.

Hayley Stevens led Council with 12 points.

The Lady Blue Devils advanced to face Haysi in the regional semifinals Thursday at Lebanon High School.

Haysi 45, J.I. Burton 35

HAYSI — Hannah Mondrage and Synthia Sutherland scored 13 points apiece and No. 4 Haysi beat No. 5 J.I. Burton in the Region D, Division 1 quarterfinals.

The Lady Tigers (12-11) jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one quarter. Erin Hyden added 12 points in the win.

The Lady Raiders (7-18) got 12 points from Christian Fultz.

Twin Valley 69, Twin Springs 45

PILGRIMS KNOB, Va. — Katelyn Jackson poured in 30 points to lead second-seeded Twin Valley to a Region D, Division 1 win over the Lady Titans.

Twin Valley knocked down nine treys to secure the victory. Kara Goodman added another 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Panthers.

Shiloah Darnell led Twin Springs (8-17) with 19 points.

Twin Valley will face Clintwood in the Region D, Division 1 semifinals on Thursday at Lebanon.

Grundy 62, Union 53

GRUNDY — The Lady Bears’ season came to an end at the hands of third-seeded  Grundy in the quarterfinals of the Region D, Division 2 tournament.

Morgan Hall scored 24 points and Loni Webb had 20 for the Lady Golden Wave (22-4), who will face Gate City on Thursday in the semifinals at Castlewood.

Sydney McKinney led No. 6 Union (15-9) with 17 points.
