TCRA hopes airline merger opens way to Dallas/Fort Worth

BLOUNTVILLE — Flights were taken away at Tri-Cities Regional Airport after the Delta-Northwest merger, but the announced American-U.S. Airways merger might be good for the airport.

The airport has sought to establish TCRA-to- Dallas/Fort Worth service for a number of years. American’s Dallas/Fort Worth hub offers more than 200 daily outbound flights. U.S. Airways currently offers flights from TCRA to Charlotte.

Concerning the American-U.S. Airways merger, TCRA Executive Director Patrick Wilson said: “We are hopeful that would present stronger opportunities than we currently have. Since we have U.S. Airways now, we don’t see the merger as a negative for us. It wouldn’t be taking away service as a result of consolidation. We think a stronger combined airline may put them in a situation where they want to reach out and be competitive. We think the Tri-Cities-Dallas (flight) would be successful.”
