The Asheville Citizen-Times reports deputies on Thursday afternoon captured two inmates about 20 hours after they escaped from the Madison County jail.
Jonathan Brian Motte, 24, of Marshall, and Joseph Emmanuel Norton, 20, escaped shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday by climbing a perimeter security fence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“It appears some departmental policy violations did occur which provided easier opportunity for the inmates to escape the facility,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “As a result of these violations three detention officers have been terminated and one additional policy will be implemented to ensure the security of the facility and the safety of Madison County citizens.”
