Kingsport man killed when car rolls over him

February 2nd, 2013 5:50 pm by J. H. Osborne

KINGSPORT — A man died after being pinned under his own vehicle at his workplace parking lot early Saturday, according to information released by the Kingsport Police Department.

KPD responded to the parking lot of Biggie’s Restaurant, 417 W. Stone Drive, shortly after 2 a.m. in reference to a man trapped under a vehicle.

Preston L. Benton, 27, Kincaid Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed Benton was the owner of the vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier, and friends said he had been having problems with the car’s emergency brake.

The friends told police Benton had to get under the car to manually release the brake.

The parking lot was on a downhill grade. When the brake was released the car began to roll and pinned Benton underneath.
