Learn how Kingsport contributed to the atomic bomb

January 28th, 2013 2:47 pm by staff report

East Tennessee played a major role in the development of the materials for the atomic bomb.

David L. Valentine will present that story in “History of the Development and Manufacturing of Bomb-Grade Uranium for Atomic Bomb: Tennessee Eastman Corporation Operation of Y-12 Plant, Clinton Engineer Works, Oak Ridge, Tennessee” at the next Kingsport Survivor’s Club meeting.

The club, which is open to anyone with an interest in Kingsport history, will meet at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4, in the Eastman Board Room on the first floor of the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, 400 Clinchfield St., downtown Kingsport.

Alex Anderson is serving as 2013 chairman.

Membership dues are $10 and are now due. Make checks payable to Survivor’s Club. The club regularly meets the first Monday of each month.
