WISE — There may have been almost a foot of snow on the ground and freezing temperatures outside Friday, but inside Virginia-Wise’s Prior Center, Wise Central was as hot as could be in a Lonesome Pine District boys basketball win over Clintwood.
The Warriors rolled to a 92-69 victory, connecting on 13 shots from beyond the arc. For the game, Central shot 13-for-25 from 3-point range and made 15 of 16 foul shots.
Caleb Mills made seven 3s and was 8-of-8 from the charity stripe on his way to a game-high 31 points for the Warriors. Aaron Thompson added 21 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and three steals, and Nick England tossed in 13 points to go with his eight rebounds.
Robbie Mullins led the Greenwave with 20 points. Dalton Dahley added 18 points and Austin Turner chipped in 12.
In the girls’ game, Hayley Wyrick provided plenty of offensive firepower, and the Lady Warriors took a 68-39 victory over Clintwood.
Wyrick put an exclamation point on her 30-point performance by going 12-for-14 from the free throw line.
Laura Gipe added 13 points and Logan Reynolds had six points and 15 rebounds for Central.
The Lady Warriors’ defense held the Lady ’Wave to only 14 shots for the game.
Samantha Stanley was the only Clintwood player to score in double digits. She finished with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
