Weather wreaks havoc on sports schedule

Heavy rains and widespread flooding are wreaking havoc on area sports schedules throughout the region today.

As of 2 p.m., a number of games originally scheduled for tonight have been postponed due to the inclement weather. Follow @tnsportslive or visit www.timesnews.net/sportslive throughout the day for updates as they become available.

Here's the latest list of changes for Tuesday, Jan. 15:



  • All Sullivan County Schools' middle school basketball games are canceled, according to Evelyn Rafalowski, the athletics supervisor for the Sullivan County Department of Education.

  • The Dobyns-Bennet/David Crockett basketball game has been postponed. According to the Dobyns-Bennett athletics' office, the game has been rescheduled for Jan. 23.

  • The Sullivan South at Science Hill basketball games are canceled. Makeup date TBA

  • The Volunteer at Sullivan Central basketball games are canceled. Makeup date TBA.


Earlier in the day, the weather also prompted school closings and early dismissals in much of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia with some areas reporting road closures. Visit www.timesnews.net or follow @timesnewsonline for updates throughout the day.
