KINGSPORT — The Sullivan North and Sullivan South boys basketball teams have enjoyed a friendly crosstown basketball rivalry.
Next year when the Rebels move into the Three Rivers Conference, it should be considerably edgier.
Golden Raiders coach Jay Gregory, whose team held off visiting South 54-51 Friday night, was already thinking ahead.
“It’s going to be much more intense next year. I told our kids before coming out that we had to send a message,” said Gregory, whose team lost the first meeting at South 69-55.
“I told them if we give this one up at home, next year when it matters they’ll come in here with a little swagger. This was a little bigger than just an out-of-conference game,” he said.
