Time is running out to submit your old family Christmas photos for the December Scrapbook Flashback and to share pictures of your family's elf in action.
The final day to submit old family Christmas pictures or "Elf Antics" photos for Sunday Scrapbook is Friday, Dec. 14.
Each week, throughout December and into the new year, Sunday Stories invites you to share your favorite current photos in Sunday Scrapbook. Our Holiday Scrapbooks feature everything from family gatherings, church plays, Christmas tree lightings and other community events. Our weekly scrapbooks feature current photos of everything from cute kids and pets, birthday parties and Scouting events to family reunions, sporting events and scenic photos of our area.
The monthly Scrapbook Flashback, however, always has a theme and occurs only once a month. It gives readers an opportunity to share photos that are at least 20 years old or older - that's 1992 or earlier. This month's theme is The Ghost of Christmas Past. For it, readers are invited to share old Christmas pictures - those old Christmas morning photos that you pledged would never see the light of the day, or those cherished photos of your favorite toy ever or your first bicycle, or your now adult children waking with wild-eyed wonder on Christmas morning.
We're also doing a special page featuring "Elf Antics." It's a chance to showcase what your family's lovable Elf on the Shelf has been up to this holiday season. But don't delay. The deadline for photos of "Elf Antics" is also Friday, Dec. 14.
There are basically two ways to get involved:
1) Share your stories.
From your favorite holiday traditions to those famous (or infamous) bleeps and blunders, we invite you to share your stories with us. Share your recollections about your favorite holiday traditions growing up in East Tennessee or Southwest Virginia. If you have a picture that helps illustrate your story, send that in too. We'll take the best stories received each week and showcase them in our Sunday Stories' Holiday Scrapbook.
The word count for stories should not exceed 300 words. Make sure to include your name, as the person submitting it, and a phone number or email address where we can reach you just in case we have any questions. (Don't worry, though. We won't publish that part!)
2) Share your photos.
Throughout the season, we also invite you to share your favorite holiday photos with us. In addition to the Flashback, which will publish in late December, we will feature holiday-themed pages showcasing your holiday photos and stories each week in Sunday Stories. From family outings, holiday parades and visits with Santa to decorations and wintertime fun, Sunday Stories offers readers an opportunity to share their photographs every week in Sunday Scrapbook.
Are you ready to get started? Well, then grab your camera - or even your iPhone - and take some photos. Then, simply email, mail or deliver them to us and we'll take care of the rest. Make sure you identify the folks in the picture, so that all your friends and family members will recognize them in the scrapbook.
The photos should be sent in jpg format, and should be approximately 5 x 7 in size, resolution 200 dots per inch, or a total file size not less than 1 megabyte. Be sure to send the photos as attachments to an email, and not as a link to any outside site. If you are unable to send digital images, we strongly recommend that you have copies of your photo made to submit. If you choose to send the original and want the photo returned after it has published, please be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You can also pick them up at the Times-News any (non-holiday) week day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Email your contributions (along with your name and address) to: email@example.com.
Or mail or deliver them to: Holiday Scrapbook, Attn: Carmen Musick, Kingsport Times-News, 701 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.comments powered by Disqus
