Children to twirl to Renaissance music

Children from 18 months old to 12 years will have a chance to experience the instrumental dance music that flowered and thrived in the Renaissance period during the KingsportARTS' ART We Talented and Arts4Kids December workshops, "Music and Dance of the Renaissance."


The ART We Talented workshop for children 18 months to 5 years old will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, in Room 239 of the Kingsport Renaissance Center, 1200 E. Center St., Kingsport. The cost is $5.


The Arts4Kids workshop for children from 5 to 12 years will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15 in Room 302 of the Kingsport Renaissance Center. The cost is $10. During the Renaissance era, music was composed, or more likely improvised, by many people. S


tudents will learn about the two forms of dance (simple and complex), Josquin des Prez's polyphonic voice and English madrigal. Students will write and perform their own madrigal and demonstrate one of the simple dance forms. For more information, call 392-8420.
