KINGSPORT — With several freshmen in the lineup, Dobyns-Bennett’s wrestling team took some lumps last season.
Now the Indians are looking to dish out some punishment of their own.
And while the Tribe isn’t a whole lot older this season (there are 10 underclassmen in the varsity rotation), the Indians are much wiser after picking up some valuable experience on the mat last season.
Their education continued on Saturday when the Indians hosted the U.S. Air Force Indian Classic, a gathering of some of the top wrestling teams around the Southeast.
“Just great competition here,” D-B coach Buzzy Mann said. “We had four defending state champion teams in here and another four or five that were in the top five in their states.
“It was a chance for us to get better and see what great wrestling is.”
