Hunting and fishing are things senior catcher Matt Williams does occasionally.
But what he’s really all about is baseball. Rebel baseball.
After earning All-Big 8 Conference and All-District 1-AAA honors behind the plate for the Sullivan South baseball team, Williams is looking forward to another stellar season with his teammates.
In addition to personal goals, team goals are high on his list.
“We think this year’s team will be a good one,” Williams said in an interview with Times-News Executive Sports Editor Pat Kenney. “I can’t wait for spring practice to begin and the season to start.”
Following are Matt’s responses to some other questions thrown his way:
Who is your favorite athlete?
I’d have to say Michael Jordan.
What is your favorite movie?
That would be “Sandlot.” It’s all about kids playing ball.
What is your favorite athletic memory?
In middle school I hit a walk-off grand slam. That was pretty nice.
What is your worst athletic memory?
I was trying to throw out a runner stealing second and threw it over the second baseman’s head. The winning run scored on that play.
If they made a movie about your life, who would play you?
Easy. Will Ferrell.
If you could host a dinner party, who would you invite?
My mother, dad and grandma.
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
I think it would be neat to fly.
They call me Matt the Fat.
What advice do you have for the underclassmen on the team?
I think they should listen to what the seniors have to say. We’ve been through a lot and our experiences could help them.
