CHURCH HILL — Talk about candid.
“We don’t play very pretty,” Sullivan Central boys basketball coach Tony Vaughn said after the Cougars’ Big 8 Conference opener at Volunteer on Friday night.
“As you can tell, we turn (the ball) over and turn it over and turn it over.”
The Cougars turned it over 19 times to be exact. However, they also made 6 of 8 foul shots in the final minute which, paired with a supreme effort on the interior by Cody Vineyard, resulted in a 57-53 victory to open the league slate.
“We do shoot free throws pretty decent,” said Vaughn, whose team finished the night 11-of-17 from the line. “Free throws won it for us at the end.
“The kids listened at the end. It took me 3½ quarters to get them to listen, but they finally did.”
