BIG STONE GAP — Tyler Vernon entered this season needing just 17 points to become the first Union basketball player to reach 1,000 for a career.
A nice milestone, Vernon admitted, but nothing to get too fussed about.
“If 1,000 comes it comes, if it doesn’t it doesn’t,” he said.
You see, for the versatile senior, wins are all that really matter. Well, that and, on Wednesday night’s evidence, making sure his teammates are just as involved in those victories as he is.
Vernon got his 17 points before exiting early in the fourth period, three others reached double figures, and the Bears battered Rye Cove 80-28 in their season opener.
