First Presbyterian Church of Bristol, Tenn., will open its 2012-2013 Arts Series with a decidedly Latin American flair as violinist George Anthony Figueroa serves as guest artist for the season’s first concert, Nov. 25, at the church. Show time is 3 p.m.
Admission is a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Figueroa performs frequently in the area with the Paramount Chamber Players and will be accompanied during this concert by Vicki Fey.
An accomplished string player, Figueroa has successfully toured as both a soloist and chamber musician throughout the Caribbean, Brazil, Germany, Mexico and the United States. He is a former member of the La Catrina Quartet, winners of the 2007 Young Performers Career Advancement Showcase held in New York City.
His concert engagements have included recitals in many prestigious chamber concert series, including the West Coast Da Camera Society, the Music Guild, the Kent Blossom Chamber Player Series, Johns Hopkins University’s Music at the Evergreen and the Nantucket Musical Arts Society. Figueroa’s international engagements include the Festival de Musica de Camara in Mexico, where he collaborated with musicians and ensembles such as Yo Yo Ma, Brentano, Miami and Turtle Island String Quartet.
He has also recorded for various public radio programs, including Cleveland’s PBS/NPR broadcast.
Currently, Figueroa forms part of New York’s prestigious Musica de Camara, a core of young Latin American string chamber players whose mission is to help promote music from different Latin American composers. He is also the Artistic Director of Bach Fest, a multinational summer/camp chamber music series for young and gifted players in western North Carolina, and a member of the faculty at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
Fey has served as Director of Music Ministries with husband Steve at First Presbyterian Church of Bristol, Tenn., since 1999. A Florida native, she received a bachelor’s degree in music from Stetson University in DeLand, Fla., and her Master of Music degree from the University of North Texas. Fey serves as adjunct organ/harpsichord faculty at King College and accompanist for the Voices of the Mountains Chorus. She is also principal keyboardist for Symphony of the Mountains, a member of the Paramount Chamber Players, teaches private piano, does free-lance accompanying in the region, has served on the regional arts board Arts Alliance Mountain Empire, is First Vice-President of the Bristol Music Club, and is a Past-President to the National Executive Board of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
Through its Arts Series, First Presbyterian Church strives to share with the community its unique facilities and events that enrich and inspire the lives of the people of Bristol, and encourage the artistically gifted in this region and beyond.
