Affordable Benefits Coverage Health Insurance works to ease clients' health concerns

It has been said, "without our health, we have nothing." One's health is an ever-present concern and, with the current state of the economy and recent rise in unemployment, how to better prepare for potential accident or illness is a topic on the mind of well-informed concerned Americans of all ages.

With 33 years experience in the field of health insurance, self-employed Scott County, Va., native Libby Morgan understands these concerns. Adept in her knowledge and experience, she is but a phone call away for those looking to set their minds at ease with new or additional health coverage.

Affordable Benefits Coverage (ABC), Morgan's self-run business, is based out of her home in Kingsport, Tenn., and offers products to commercial, individual and senior markets.

Morgan is appointed to sell through different insurance companies like Humana, United Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, and Crestpoint Health, just to name a few.

The self-titled "homebody" decided to start ABC two years ago following her retirement from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Having built up a broad client base over the course of her long-time employment as an account executive with BCBST, Morgan realized a strong need still existed in the community. Though her job had ended, her purpose "to make a difference in at least one person's life every day " had not quite yet been fulfilled.

"After 28 years of service in the[BCBST] marketing department, my life took another turn," she said. "After many months of debating, I made a decision to retire from a position that I dearly loved and become an independent health insurance broker."

For some, running a business out of their home could become distracting - but not for Morgan, who is accustomed to the strict regimen required in her line of work, having started her career at age 19. Although she has since retired from BCBST and subsequently become self-employed, she still begins her workday as promptly as any other full-time, in-office employee around.

"I try to do an eight hour day and, most of the time, it ends up being more," Morgan explained. "You have to treat your day just like you would if you were leaving your house and going to a job."

Her free time, though sparse, is spent divided amongst her three joys: her beloved daughter, Tracie; her prized pooch, Gracie; and the antique black convertible that she keeps in her garage.

The car, Morgan admitted, "I do love to work on." Cleaning the engine is one of her favorite maintenance duties. "It's like bathing a baby," she described.

Her main focus, though, remains in helping others through a vocation she wholeheartedly believes in and has devoted much of her life to. She doesn't seem to mind the long hours she spends working at her home office and traveling to meet with clients - especially since, on a daily basis, she gets to "meet new people and make new friends."
