Daniel Boone sophomore Adam Barnard has quickly made his mark in high school cross country circles.
Barnard won the Big 8 Conference boys individual title recently, setting a meet record on the grueling Steele Creek Park course and leading the Trailblazers to an impressive team victory.
Boone finished fifth in the state cross country meet last year and Barnard and his teammates are looking for a higher finish this time around.
Recently, Barnard answered some questions from Times-News executive sports editor Pat Kenney. Here are his responses:
Who is your favorite athlete, past or present?
Kobe Bryant. I like his attitude. I want to be like him in my running, aggressive all the time.
What is your favorite movie?
The movie about the life of Steve Prefontaine.
What is your best athletic memory?
One time in 7th grade I scored four touchdowns and then qualified for the state middle school meet the same day.
What is your worst athletic memory?
Probably the Big 8 Conference last year. Had a lot of expectations. Weather conditions were terrible and I sort of tanked it. I don’t ever want that to happen again.
In a movie made about your life, who would play you?
If you were hosting a dinner party, who would be your three ideal guests?
Morgan Freeman, Wilt Chamberlain and Steve Prefontaine.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Everybody wants to fly, right?
Do you have any superstitions?
I always wear one white sock on left foot and one black on the right. When I started running, I noticed that all the elite runners had something they did so I wanted to start something.
Do you have a nickname?
What advice do you have for younger runners just starting out in cross country?
Train consistent. No matter what you do always be consistent.
