KINGSPORT — It should go down in sports history as the K-Town Klassic.
A crowd of some 13,000 filed into J. Fred Johnson Stadium on Friday night and saw what they came for: a spectacle.
The defining moment may have been at halftime when Dobyns-Bennett football coach Graham Clark, his team trailing 27-19, told the players: “Guys, I love this. We’re going to find out if you have heart.”
The Indians gave Clark their answer, a pulsating 37-34 victory over Science Hill that decided the District 1-AAA and Big 8 Conference championships.
Kicker Chad Diminick’s 35-yard field goal with 17.7 seconds remaining climaxed one of the most exciting games in conference history.
