Woods’ Dobyns-Bennett stumbled in the semifinal round of the Region 1-AAA girls soccer tournament for the second consecutive season Tuesday night. This time, a 3-1 comeback win from the hosts not only ended the Lady Indians’ postseason run but also served as a particularly devastating way to exit considering the way the game unfolded.
D-B (9-9-3) controlled the opening half, and led through a Maggie Burkett goal in the 21st minute, only to concede six minutes from the halftime interval and unravel thereafter.
How bad was it? D-B produced just two shots on target in the second half, neither of which really troubled Trojans goalkeeper Erin Murphy. This after the Lady Tribe forced Murphy into a series of excellent stops during the opening 45 minutes.
