BRISTOL, Tenn. — The favorites prevailed at Thursday’s Big 8 Conference cross country championships.
The Daniel Boone boys and Science Hill girls conquered the grueling Steele Creek Park course and cruised to victories in their respective races.
Led by sophomore Adam Barnard’s meet-record time of 15:57.94, Trailblazer runners finished 1-2-3 and had their first five runners in the top 10. The Trailblazers’ Roderick Bowman was second (16:09.74) with teammate Chad Whitehead third (16:48.23).
Boone’s team total of 22 left Science Hill second with 46 while Dobyns-Bennett was third at 84.
Martha McCoy and Molly Foster went 1-2 for the Lady Hilltoppers. Science Hill’s top five runners finished ninth or better.
The Lady ‘Toppers had a team total of 23 points with Tennessee High second (51) and Dobyns-Bennett third (70). McCoy’s winning time was 19:20.92 with Foster crossing the finish line at 19:44.38.
