Women's Expo offers even 'More of What Women Want' this weekend at MeadowView

The Women's Expo will be held at MeadowView Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Ladies, if you’re looking for a little "me" time, a bit of pampering or just something fun to do, attend the Johnson City Press and Kingsport Times-News Women’s Expo 2012. With more than 100 exhibitors, there certainly will be "More of What Women Want."

Many favorite events will be returning for this year’s 15th Women’s Expo. For the second year, a lucky winner will be announced on Sunday to receive a $25,000 dream wedding. And Ambush Makeovers are back as well. To win a makeover, ladies should be in line 15 minutes before the doors open on Saturday and Sunday, wearing pink and holding an "Ambush Me!" sign. One individual will be chosen each day for a new haircut, makeup and wardrobe.

But beauty tips aren’t the only draw.

"As always, a big focus at the show is women’s health," said Traci Williams, event marketing director. "And this year is no different."

During the stage presentation of "The Doctor Is In," attendees can ask health questions in a Q & A session with a panel of area health experts. Holston Medical Group will offer balance screenings, Holston Valley Medical Center will give free health screenings and healthy living advice, and Marcum’s Pharmacy will provide flu shots for $20. The Alzheimer’s Organization will present "The Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease" on the main stage, and Pharmacist Steve Lane with Pro Compounding Pharmacy will offer "Hormone Balance and a Healthier You."

Other educational events abound as well, according to Williams, who has worked to organize the past six Women’s Expos.

Chef Anna will give cooking demonstrations on Saturday on fixing healthy dishes that are compatible with the HCG, Paleo and gluten-free diets. Also on Saturday, Business Coach Natalie R. Manor will present on stage "Get Back On Track - You Know You Want To!" Afterwards, she’ll host a one-on-one seminar from her booth. Seating is limited to 20.

Fashion shows will be held during the weekend by Belk of Kingsport, The Children’s Place and Threads. And numerous vendors will showcase items like fragrances, jewelry, cosmetics, furniture and home décor products.

Lack of childcare shouldn’t keep you from attending because, on Saturday, Yaya-Raha Learning Center will provide free childcare on a first-come, first-serve basis for children between the ages of 2 and 10 years old. If you prefer to attend with your children, strollers are welcome, and children ages 12 and under get in free.

The Women’s Expo will be held at MeadowView Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. Advance tickets are on sale for $5 at the Kingsport Times-News on Lynn Garden Drive, Ben Franklin Crafts on Stone Drive in Kingsport, and at the Herald & Tribune in Jonesborough. Tickets at the door are $7. Sunday tickets cost $8.

The first 100 ladies in line with a paid ticket each day will have a chance to win $100 cash. The drawing will be held on Saturday at 10:50 a.m. and Sunday at 1:50 p.m. You must be present at the Zak’s Fine Furniture Main Stage to win.
