GRAY — Just another typical girls soccer match between Daniel Boone and Sullivan Central.
Lady Cougars take early lead. Lady Trailblazers respond with two goals. Lady Cougars equalize in the final minute. Lady Trailblazers fashion game-winner in extra time.
Not much entertainment then. Yeah, right.
“Where do I start?” joked Central coach Cliff Ferguson, following Boone’s roller-coaster 3-2 win in the opening round of the District 1-AAA tournament on Monday at Ken Green Field.
Added Lady Trailblazers coach Steve Sessis: “This is the way it always is when we play.”
Elsewhere on Monday night, Dobyns-Bennett and Sullivan South advanced to set up a much-anticipated rematch between the two Kingsport schools in today’s semifinal nightcap (7 p.m.).
No. 3 South sidestepped Tennessee High in a 7-0 victory highlighted by Natalie Street’s four goals. Second-seeded D-B battered David Crockett 9-1, with Erin Burkett recording a first-half hat trick.
