PORTLAND, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Portland arrested a high school assistant football coach for assault after he was accused of shouting obscenities at several students and grabbing one student around the throat.
According to a news release from the Portland Police Department, on Thursday, eight students at Portland High School were inside the office of the head football coach's office, which is normally off limits to players.
Police said Assistant Coach George Michael Coley came into the office yelling obscenities at the students and told them to leave. The release said one student made a comment that upset Coley and Coley shoved the student backward on to a table and grabbed the student's throat for a few seconds.
Coley was scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 24.
