As of about 2:20 p.m., the gas line valve was shut off by crews repairing the rupture. Students from Johnson Elementary School were moved to Oakwood Forest Christian Church where parents can begin picking them up at 2:45 p.m.

As of 2:30 p.m., there still is no traffic access to the E. Sevier/Ormond area.

A backhoe working about seven feet from the back of the school ruptured a gas line earlier this afternoon.

Construction crews have reportedly hit a gas line outside of Johnson Elementary School, forcing an evacuation of the school.

As of 1:30 p.m. Kingsport police were diverting traffic from around the school, 1001 Ormond Drive. Motorists in the area should use caution, as traffic on East Sevier and North Eastman Road could be affected.
