GATE CITY — A Nickelsville woman was arrested on burglary charges recently after she allegedly tried to break into her boyfriend’s home last month and lied to authorities about who the residence belonged to.
Lillie Marie Osborne, 47, 1241 Marvin Springs Road, was arrested by the Gate City Police Department on charges of breaking and entering and making false statements to law enforcement.
Gate City Police Chief Kim Birchfield said Osborne called Scott County 911 to report a burglary at a residence located at 398 Old Nickelsville Road, Gate City.
Osborne allegedly told dispatch that the home was hers and that her boyfriend, Larry Collins, had broken into it and changed the locks so she couldn’t gain access.
When officers arrived at the scene, they reported seeing Osborne pry open the back door of the residence and enter it.
Upon further investigation, Birchfield said officers determined that the residence in question belonged to Collins and that he was the only person living there. Investigators also discovered that Collins was actually Osborne’s ex-boyfriend.
During a subsequent interview with Gate City investigators, Osborne told police she had a Nickelsville address and had never lived at the Old Nickelsville Road home.
Osborne allegedly admitted to officers that she entered the home without Collins’ permission and made the false report of a burglary to 911.
Osborne was released on her own recognizance and is schedule to appear in Scott County General District Court at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23.
