KINGSPORT — Sullivan South entered senior night knowing exactly what needed to be accomplished to claim a District 1-AAA girls soccer regular-season championship.
So did Science Hill.
The Lady Hilltoppers, familiar with such a prospect, played with aggression. South, meanwhile, sat back and waited for the game to come to it.
Not a good idea.
Hannah Torbett netted twice in two minutes midway through the first half, and Science Hill (11-3-2, 5-0-1), rampant for a majority of the contest, dismantled the Lady Rebels 5-0 on Tuesday night to secure yet another District 1 crown.
The rest of District 1 endured a minor reshuffling. South (10-4-2, 4-1-1) fell to third following Tuesday’s defeat. Dobyns-Bennett (6-8-3, 4-0-2) was the benefactor, moving to second thanks to a 6-0 victory against Daniel Boone.
Sullivan Central locked up the district’s fifth seed behind Boone with its 5-1 defeat of Tennessee High.
South and D-B could meet in the district tournament semifinals provided both navigate ways out of the opening round. The two played out an enthralling 2-2 draw earlier in the season.
