Kingsport police are investigating a rollover crash on Interstate 81 Friday that temporarily closed one lane of northbound traffic.
The crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. near mile marker 58. Kingsport Police Department Officer Dale Farmer said according to witness statements, a northbound Chevrolet S-10 was attempting to enter the right-hand lane after passing to the left of several vehicle, but the pickup continued veering to the right and off the interstate, striking an earthen embankment and rolling.
The driver was extricated from the vehicle with serious injuries and transported to Holston Valley Medical Center.
As of 5 p.m. Friday no identification had been found on the pickup’s driver and lone occupant, a white male, and an investigation was continuing.
Several minor fender benders were also reported in the immediate vicinity of the wreck, as northbound traffic was temporarily limited to one lane as emergency responders worked the scene.
