Blountville man allegedly pulls knife on motorist, kicks him in groin

Lawrence Tasker, 58.

A minor traffic collision has led to charges of aggravated assault against a Blountville man, as he allegedly pulled a knife on the other motorist and kicked him in the groin.

Lawrence Tasker, 58, of 466 J. H. Fauver Road, was arrested in the incident at the intersection of J. H. Fauver and Beechnut Road. A Sullivan County Sheriff's Office incident report says Tasker claims to have had previous "problems" with the alleged victim, who lives on Beechnut.

Police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. A deputy reports Tasker was immediately placed into custody, "due to his erratic behavior." The other man, 46, reported he was driving his truck on J. H. Fauver when a motorcycle traveling the opposite direction struck his mirror.

Both the driver of the truck and the motorcycle rider, Tasker, stopped in the road. The victim reports recognizing Tasker — due to being in a previous car accident with Tasker's wife — and asked him if he was OK.

According to the police report, Tasker was immediately angry and belligerent. He allegedly told the other man, "I know who you are and you've caused me problems before." The victim claims Tasker then began, "rambling on about religion," and accused him of being a drug addict.

When the victim stated he was going to call police, Tasker reportedly kicked him in the groin and pulled a knife out of his pocket.

"I like to kill people like you," Tasker is alleged to have said, along with, "I've got a gun permit and a gun."

Before police arrived, according to the victim, Tasker put the knife up and pulled it back out several times. The officer's report states Tasker admitted to pulling the knife on the victim, "to show it to him."

Tasker was arrested and transported to the Sullivan County jail in Blountville. As of Friday morning he had yet to post bond or be released.
