CLINTWOOD — The Dickenson Center for Education and Research will host its first Energy Expo on Oct. 12.
Open to the public, the expo will feature an assortment of events including a mine rescue contest, pre-shift contest, mine foreman training, mine rescue breathing apparatus training, electrical repairman review, and a Career Day event for Dickenson County students.
“The Energy Expo initiates what county, education and industry leaders hope will be an annual event designed to share information with the public about the region’s energy related industries,” said Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy Deputy Director Butch Lambert .
“Another important element of the expo will be the inclusion of a Career Day for Dickenson middle and high school students to learn about potential job opportunities in the energy production business sector.”
In addition to mine rescue, training and Career Day activities, the Energy Expo will also include exhibits by coal, oil and gas industry vendors, the Dickenson County school division, community colleges, and industry representatives.
Sponsors of the expo include the Dickenson County Industrial Development Authority, Dickenson Center for Education and Research, Dickenson County Chamber of Commerce, Virginia DMME, Virginia Mining Association, and the Virginia Oil and Gas Association.
Events will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the Dickenson Center for Education and Research located at 818 Happy Valley Drive in Clintwood. For more information call (276) 926-4388.
