Sullivan County Courthouse
Downtown Blountville, Tennessee
Ever wonder when that old photograph of great-grandmother was made? What type of photograph is that? What is the most important tool for dating your old family photographs? Hmmm... Relax and enjoy an evening of old family photographs, see a brief history of early photography, and find out how you can begin to time-date your own collection of old photos. On Thurs., Sept. 20, 2012, the Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society will sponsor a presentation by professional genealogist and archivist Shelia Steele Hunt at 7 PM at the Sullivan County Courthouse in Blountville.
The event will also include a slide presentation entitled "Sullivan County Memories", an historic photograph collection depicting early schools, churches, families, homes, farms, Bible records and more.
Did you know that the Sullivan County Archives collects old photographs of the region? The Archives accepts original photographs, or if you prefer, will scan your old photographs to include a digital image in the Archives collection. If you would like your photos to be included in the collection, please contact the Archives at (423) 323-4660. In celebration of nearly nine years of historic preservation, the Sullivan County Archives welcomes genealogists and family historians to visit its preservation and research center located beside the old Sullivan County Courthouse in downtown Blountville.
"Genealogy Memories" is co-sponsored by the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism. Admission to the presentation is free and the general public is cordially invited.
