KINGSPORT — PEO Chapter V of Kingsport will host its annual Bridge Luncheon fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Food City on Eastman Road.
The PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) was founded in 1869 by seven female students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Today, PEO has nearly 250,000 members in chapters in the United States and Canada. The organization promotes educational opportunities for women through six philanthropies, including ownership of the two- year women’s college Cottey College, and five programs that provide higher educational assistance: PEO Educational Loan Fund, PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund, PEO Program for Continuing Education, PEO Scholar Awards and PEO STAR Scholarship.
The Bridge Luncheon begins with coffee at 9:30 a.m., followed by lunch, bridge and a fashion show by Threads and jewelry by La-Tee-Da. Tickets are $22 and can be reserved by calling 246-9152 or 247-4537.
All proceeds, including part of the sales from Threads and La-Tee-Da, will go toward PEO programs.
Since 1907, PEO has helped more than 85,000 women with scholarships, grants and loans totaling more than $210 million.
