Shawn Lee Wray, 27.
Police have arrested a Kingsport man — previously convicted of sex offenses against a minor in 2006 — after he allegedly raped his 6-month-old child Monday night. Police report the infant also suffered a fractured skull in the incident.
Shawn Lee Wray, 27, 404 Barnette Dr. Lot 47, is charged with one count of aggravated child rape and one count of aggravated child abuse, each Class A felonies carrying between 15 to 60 years imprisonment. He turned himself in to Kingsport police at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fire Station 7 on Rock Springs Road.
KPD Det. Toby Wells says law enforcement were contacted at approximately 10 p.m. Monday by staff at Holston Valley Medical Center. They were treating a child who had sustained a severe skull fracture and injuries indicative of sexual abuse.
As police investigated the incident Wray, the child's father, was developed as a suspect and warrants were obtained for his arrest. Police declined to identify where the alleged abuse occurred, but stated Wray is also facing two additional charges of violation of the sex offender registry. He was reportedly staying at a residence where juveniles, who are not his biological children, were present.
In March of 2006 Wray was convicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault on a child in Montgomery County, Texas. Det. Wells said that incident concerned the rape of a 13-year-old child.
In November of last year a Sullivan County grand jury indicted Wray for violation of the sex-offender registry, after he allegedly admitted to living with his girlfriend and her two-month-old son.
Wray is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Kingsport court.
