TVA police investigating illegal activity at South Holston Dam

June 20th, 2012 1:33 pm by staff report

A Bristol, Tenn., man has been charged with indecent exposure near South Holston Dam.

Darrell Williams, 39, was booked at the Sullivan County Jail following a recent surveillance operation by Tennessee Valley Authority police, who stepped up their presence at the dam in response to complaints about illegal activity there.

Officers said Williams allegedly exposed himself after following an investigator into a wooded area near the dam.

“We want people to know that we will take action when we receive credible complaints about illegal activities on TVA property,” said David Jolley, TVA vice president for Security and Emergency Management. “We intend to continue our surveillance at South Holston and plan to make more arrests if necessary.”

TVA Police is a division of TVA Security and Emergency Management. TVA Police investigators and inspectors are sworn federal law enforcement officers and are located across the seven-state service area.

Anyone who sees suspected illegal activity on TVA property can call the TVA Monitoring and Notification Center at 1-800-548-4005. Callers can remain anonymous.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, provides electricity for business customers and distribution utilities that serve 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA also provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists utilities and state and local governments with economic development.
