Farmer's Markets offer locally-grown products

The Kingsport Farmer's Market is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays, from April through December.

It is that time of year again and, no, I’m not talking about summer vacations, swimming pools or long summer nights. It is time to get out and shop your local farmer’s market! Regardless of where you live in Northeast Tennessee or Southwest Virginia, there is a farmer’s market in your local vicinity.

On a recent trip to the Kingsport Farmer’s Market, I discovered a wide selection of seasonal produce, such as lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cauliflower, squash, cucumbers and an assortment of other locally-grown produce. There was also an array of homemade jellies, jams, apple butter, canned goods and beautiful flowers.

"We currently have around 100 members and in the mid-summer peak time on Saturday mornings, we have approximately 65 vendors participating," said Jim LaFollette, the Kingsport Farmer’s Market president.

The market takes place rain or shine in the new indoor facility and is located on the corner of Center and Clinchfield streets. In addition, Eastman Wellness recently partnered with the Kingsport Farmer’s Market to start a market on the Eastman property, located on Lincoln Street, from 3 to 7 p.m., every Monday.

At its downtown location, the Kingsport Farmer’s Market is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays, from April through December. For more information, contact LaFollette at 423-357-3897 or visit www.kingsporttn.gov/kingsport-farmers-market.
