Firewood Smokehouse brings wood-smoked barbecue to downtown Kingsport

May 15th, 2012 10:05 am by Katina Rose

Plain and simple, people love a great barbecue - especially when that means a new and delicious barbecue dining experience is open in downtown Kingsport.

Firewood Smokehouse serves a unique barbecue that is smoked for approximately 12 hours before it's served to customers. There is an onsite smoker that uses wood, not gas, to provide the delicious aroma throughout the building.

The restaurant provides a wide array of homemade side items, which include hand-cut fries and, according to the staff, some of the best baked beans in the area. Every day, all of the items on the menu, including the barbecue sauce, are made from scratch. Even the highly-sought-after brownies provide an excellent sweet treat for dessert.

Billy Hill, the general manager with 22 years of experience, provides a mouth-watering cornbread upon request.

"If you have a 30-minute lunch break, come eat at Firewood Smokehouse and you will still have 28 minutes to enjoy," said Hill.

They promise a quick and fresh lunch in a downtown minute.

It’s not only the delicious aroma of smoked barbecue that brings customers to dine, but the unique style and charm of the building at 242 E Main Street. When owner Randy Wood saw the building for the first time, he had no doubts that it would be the perfect place for a thriving barbecue eatery. The historical charm and exposed brick walls made up Wood’s mind to pursue his idea for a permanent family-style location. Throughout the restaurant, Wood has added collectic decor, televisions and a music sound system to establish a festive atmosphere.

There is also an exciting new addition taking place upstairs. When the remodeling is complete, a banquet room will be available upstairs for private functions/parties, or for additional dining.

Firewood Smokehouse has something for everyone in the family. A few of the favorites that bring in repeat customers are the sirloin hamburgers, Danish baby back ribs, collard greens and deep fried baby backers. Firewood Smokehouse also has a children’s menu, and serves salads. There is also the option of ordering a plate of side items as an entrée. The crushed ice and sweet tea is a favorite among downtown diners and a required drink with good barbecue.

Manager Melanie Smith said, "In the six weeks we have been open, we have already had out-of-state customers visit us because of the positive word of mouth recommendations we are receiving."

The staff at Firewood Smokehouse is committed to serving the best wood smoked barbecue and mouth watering side items in the area and invite you downtown to see for yourself.

The hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Firewood Smokehouse is located at 242 E. Main Street, downtown Kingsport. Catering and to-go orders are available upon request. For more information, call 423-765-1020.
