SportsLive offers new opportunities for teams, leagues and fans

There is a new and exciting venue for sports fans in the local community.

If you follow any or all high school sports or recreational leagues, SportsLive at is the place to be for up-to-date information.

SportsLive began in August of 2011 when the Times-News introduced Friday Night Football Live, a sports page that featured area fans tweeting live information while watching their high school football games with those tweets displayed in real time at

With basketball season, the Times-News introduced Full Court Press - again featuring tweets from local high school basketball games, and adding additional stories, schedules, rosters, and results on area teams.

With the transition to spring, and a growing audience and fan base, the decision was made to expand coverage and change the name to SportsLive. SportsLive is now featuring high school spring sports, and is looking to expand its coverage of local recreational sports.

"Our vision is to provide the most complete coverage of local sports that we can. We have a great sports staff at the Times-News, but they can’t be everywhere at once. With the assistance of local residents, who have pride and enthusiasm for their respective teams, and the aid of technology, we are able to expand our sports coverage," said Diana Meredith, content and audience development manager for the Kingsport Times-News.

"We want to encourage residents of the community to participate with us and would love to work with any local sports organizations," said Meredith.

The SportsLive site would like to include information from all local area recreational leagues. To have information about your team or league posted on the SportsLive website (at no charge), contact Meredith at, or call her at 423-723-1484. You can also send sign-ups, schedules or results directly to the Times-News' sports staff at

SportsLive is also looking for tweeters who are interested in covering high school, youth or rec teams. If you have a cell phone and are interested in keeping others informed about your favorite local team, contact Bill Robinson at 423-392-1356, or email

SportsLive at now features live tweet updates, player profiles, stories, schedules, results and more on baseball, softball, soccer, track and tennis. There is also an upcoming events section with information on everything from local tournaments to upcoming running and road races.

"Having this information online allows us to have it available for folks anytime they need or want to reference it," said Meredith.
