Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has signed one in a package of three bills creating new felony offenses for selling, making and distributing synthetic drugs.
According to Haslam spokesman Dave Smith, the governor has signed Kingsport GOP state Rep. Tony Shipley's legislation defining synthetic drugs as a "controlled substance analogue or other substance that has the stimulant, depressant, or hallucinogenic effect on the central nervous system of a controlled substance and the chemical structure which is a derivative of a controlled substance."
The other legislative pieces attacking synthetic drugs, which passed in the recently adjourned legislative session, were sponsored in the House by state Reps. Jon Lundberg- R-Bristol, and Ryan Williams, R-Cookeville.
