Sale to benefit Holston Habitat for Humanity

April 13th, 2012 11:43 pm by J. H. Osborne

KINGSPORT — Just Store It! on Sherwood Road is hosting a community yard sale later this month and using the event to raise awareness — and hopefully some funding — for Holston Habitat for Humanity.

Tenants of the self-storage facility were given a head start on reserving spaces for the April 28 yard sale, but beginning today the general public may book spots as well.

All registration fees are non-refundable and will be donated to Holston Habitat for Humanity, said Just Store It! employee Jennifer Taylor.

“Our goal is to raise at least $2,000 for Habitat,” Taylor said. “And if sellers have items left at the end of the day that they don’t want and would like to donate to the Holston Habitat for Humanity ReStore, our staff will collect and deliver those items to the ReStore. Everyone is welcome to participate. We’re expecting a really good turnout, and the visibility of our location should provide a steady flow of shoppers.”

Taylor said she has room for up to 100 “booths” in the parking lot, which fronts onto the busy intersection of Fort Henry Drive, Memorial Boulevard and Sherwood Road — and connects to the parking lot of Food City’s Eastman Road store.

A 10-foot-by-10-foot “booth” is $25, which includes a pre-set 8-foot table — or $40 will reserve two spaces, with two tables.

Setup time will be from 6 to 7:45 a.m. on the day of the sale, which is advertised to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants must manage their booths — and will keep 100 percent of the proceeds made from items sold in their booths.

Taylor said any gently used clothing, toys, small furniture or household items can be brought to sell. Food vendors are prohibited, as are illegal contraband, weapons or adult entertainment items.

Just Store It! staff will promote and advertise for the event as well as set up and take down tables.

Holston Habitat for Humanity will hold a grand opening of its new ReStore location, on Main Street in downtown Kingsport, next month, Taylor said.
