HealthSouth again supports the Heart Walk

April 8th, 2012 11:30 pm by staff report

HealthSouth has a long tradition of supporting the American Heart Association in the Tri-Cities community, and 2012 will be no different.

The American Heart Association announced last month that HealthSouth will continue as the Signature sponsor for the 2012 Heart Walk to be held Sept. 23 at Northeast State Community College. The Heart Walk is an American Heart Association event to promote awareness and prevention of America’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers, heart disease and stroke. All funds raised during the Heart Walk go toward local research, education, and community outreach programs.

HealthSouth will also present and play host to the first American Heart Association Hands on Heart Research Reception later this year. The Hands on Heart Research Reception is a premier medical science event where attendees experience first-hand the innovative American Heart Association research, and mingling with the minds shaping the future of heart health.

In addition, HealthSouth’s Jeff Clark, director of marketing, and Shawn Wilkinson, marketing liaison, have accepted nominations as members of the Red Tie Society, an elite group of men in the Tri-Cities community that supports and advocates for the heart health of the women in their lives.

“We are happy to have HealthSouth on board as the signature sponsor for the 2012 Heart Walk again this year,” said Marty Price, regional director of the American Heart Association. “We are also excited about HealthSouth presenting the Hands on Heart Research Reception, as well as Jeff Clark and Shawn Wilkinson accepting the nominations to join the Red Tie Society.”

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Kingsport is an acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital treating more than 1,000 patients annually from the region.

“HealthSouth is proud to be a supporting sponsor for the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Susan Glenn, CEO of HealthSouth. “Many of the patients our acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals treat are here as a result of cardiovascular disease and stroke, and HealthSouth wants to be proactive in helping change the statistics in the Tri-Cities.”

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers, claim more than 813,804 American lives a year.
