A Kingsport man was Tasered by police and pulled from the attic of his ex-girlfriend's home Wednesday after allegedly choking and attempting to stab the woman.
Ernest Earl Brewer Jr., 32, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and resisting arrest. Kingsport police records indicate Brewer has been arrested for assaults against the victim three times since they began a relationship in September, with the most recent assault occurring Valentine's Day.
According to KPD Cpl. Det. Steve Summey, Brewer was retrieving personal items from the condo he shared with the woman at 2676 Timbers Edge Trace, just off North John B. Dennis Highway. At approximately 11:30 a.m. police were called to the condo in reference to a female screaming for help.
Officers found the victim crying. She claimed Brewer had punched and choked her, then grabbed a "large kitchen knife." When he allegedly attempted to stab her in the stomach she blocked her abdomen with her arms, suffering multiple cuts to her hands.
Police located Brewer hiding in the condo's attic. Cpl. Summey says Brewer resisted arrest and was Tasered before being brought into custody. He was transported and booked into the city jail.
The victim suffered no serious injuries in the incident and did not require hospitalization.
