ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who told police in 2010 that a 12-year-old girl “blackmailed” him into having sex with her was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday by Judge John Dugger.

Jesse James Warwick, 43, formerly of Jones Lane in Rogersville, pleaded guilty in Hawkins County Criminal Court Friday to two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

He will be required to serve 100 percent of the sentence as a violent offender as part of the plea agreement, and will be monitored as a convicted sex offender for life upon his release from prison.

On Jan. 29, 2010, the mother of the victim told police the girl had stated she’d been sexually abused by Warwick over an extended period of time between her 12th and 13th birthdays.

The girl stated Warwick performed oral sex on her and forced her to perform oral sex on him.

When interviewed by the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office in February of 2010, however, Warwick allegedly claimed “the victim had blackmailed him to do stuff to her he did not want to do,” according to his arrest warrant affidavit.

Warwick allegedly admitted that he once rubbed the victim’s naked buttocks.

The offenses occurred between March 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009, according to court documents.
