NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A former guard at a state lockup for girls has been charged with statutory rape.

Jon Greer, who is 27 years old and lives in Nashville, surrendered to police Monday after a Davidson County grand jury indicted him.

Greer is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old girl at New Visions Youth Development Center, according to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/wmXgwJ).

The facility is operated by the Tennessee Department of Children's Services and houses up to 50 girls between 13 and 19 years of age.

An investigation began in November after other residents at the home reported they suspected a sexual relationship had developed between the girl and the guard.

The department's website states the mission of New Visions is to "provide a secure, therapeutic environment for delinquent girls."
