CLINTWOOD — The Health Wagon announced Wednesday a $25,000 donation from Alpha Natural Resources to help build a new clinic near Wise.
The Health Wagon is planning to locate a facility near the University of Virginia’s College at Wise staffed by volunteer specialists to serve uninsured and underinsured patients with quality health care.
The new clinic will support The Health Wagon’s service area expansion to serve additional patients in need across the region. Alpha Natural Resources has provided support for the region’s independent health provider group for many years.
“The Health Wagon is honored to receive support from Alpha Natural Resources to support its building project,” said Teresa Gardner, executive director of The Health Wagon. “This donation promotes and enhances access to health care delivery for citizens of Southwest Virginia. The donation supports The Health Wagon to continue valuable and needed services.”
Alpha Natural Resources CEO Kevin Crutchfield said his company has long been an enthusiastic supporter of The Health Wagon.
“We applaud the work The Health Wagon continues to do on behalf of the uninsured and the underinsured,” he said. “Adding a stationary facility to its mobile services strengthens its ability to deliver high-quality health care services.”
