Tri-Cities radio personality Richard Quillen dead at 50

LEBANON, Va. — Richard Quillen, a longtime radio personality in the Tri-Cities known for his all-request call-in show on Saturdays, passed away at his home in Russell County on Monday, according to a spokesperson.

Quillen, 50, had suffered from a brief illness, said a representative from the disc jockey’s last broadcast center, WAXM in Norton.

“We wish that everyone would keep the Quillen family in their thoughts and prayers,” the official said Tuesday.

Quillen, who spent nearly three decades on the air, had been at the FM station based in Wise County for only a year. Prior to that, he had been co-host of “The Morning Air Show” on Bristol Broadcasting Co.’s WXBQ FM with fellow DJ Steve Stroud.
