Saint Dominic students donate items for Hope House little ones

KINGSPORT — Students at Saint Dominic Catholic School have donated a pickup truck load of baby items to Hope House, a local faith-based charity serving young women in crisis pregnancies.

The donations were made as part of Catholic School Week, a national event held last week nationwide. Hope House received the items Monday.
“Every year, Saint Dominic School chooses an organization they want to support,” said fifthgrade teacher Catherine Roach, who helped coordinate the effort this year.

A committee at the school makes the annual decision. Past beneficiaries have included a nokill animal shelter and a program to give shoes to children in Haiti.

Roach said the committee members thought the Hope House was a good choice because it helps support young mothers and their families.
The charity operates the Hope House Center for Women, a walk-in facility on Eastman Road, and also runs a residential facility in Colonial Heights.
