KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Police Department reports 50 pounds of medication were collected in the first week of having a drug collection point in the lobby of the Kingsport Justice Center, 200 Shelby St.
KPD Officer Tom Patton said the drop-off box was installed Jan. 27 as part of “Project: Drug Drop Zone,” a medication take-back initiative. The goal of the program is to “keep drugs off the street, prevent overdoses and accidental poisonings, and avoid environmental contamination,” he said.
The secure drug drop box is to be used for the disposal of non-narcotics, narcotics, over-the-counter medicines, herbals and veterinary medications. Leftover, unwanted or expired medications can be dropped off 24 hours a day.
Prohibited items include needles or sharps, biohazard materials and illegal drugs.
For more information or questions concerning Project: Drug Drop Zone contact the KPD’s Community Relations and Crime Prevention Unit at 229-9433 or send e-mail to ThomasMPatton@KingsportTN.gov.

Will be like watching that TV show "America's Dumbest Criminals" but, instead of trying to steal the ATM machine...They'll try to rob this drop box from police stations.
Can't wait til' that show airs.
