Pie Wars coming to Johnson City

January 5th, 2012 9:48 am by Staff Report

Young Professionals of the Tri-Cities invite people to decide once again who has the best pizza in Johnson City. Pie Wars: The Rise of the Dough, a charity event to benefit the Children's Advocacy Center of the 1st District, will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, from 5 to 11 p.m., at The Charles in Downtown Johnson City. Pie Wars II will pit pizza parlors from around Johnson City against each other for a shot at claiming the title, won last year by Scratch Brick Oven.

"Pie Wars was hugely successful last year and we're hoping people come out again this year," said Samara Litvack, YPTri communication director. "We are very excited to be supporting such a worthy cause."

Attendees will judge anonymous samples of pizza from Bellacino's, Fun Expedition, Gino's, Knight's, Main Street Pizza, One 12 Downtown, Papa John's, Pizza Inn and Scratch Brick Oven in three scheduled rounds: one-topping, up-to-three-topping and chef's choice. Tickets to the event give attendees a vote in each round, a beer tasting by Yuengling, a wine tasting, music by DJ CosMoore and The Jones Boys Band, and will give attendees the chance to win a variety of door prizes donated by local businesses. Big Daddy Voodoo, the Little City Roller Girls and members of the local women's rugby team will be in attendance and cash bars will also be available. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the CAC.

"It is important people understand that voting will close for each round at a certain time," Litvack said. "Anyone wishing to take part in the pizza sampling should arrive by 5:30. Pizza samples will be coming in from 5:30 until around 8:30 or 9."

One of the highlights from last year's event was the Man vs. Pizza competition, in which 10 attendees compete against each other in a race to finish a large pizza pie. This will again take place when the pizza tasting rounds are finished and attendees can sign up at the event's information booth. Also, Just Jill Photography will be at the event taking pictures for a nominal fee, the proceeds from which add to the grand total CAC donation.

A list of all current sponsors, a full description of the event, and a schedule of pizza rounds can be found on the YPTri Facebook page, at Visit to purchase a ticket or email for further information. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door; attendees must be 21 years old or older.
