Remains of infant found near Rogersville several years old

January 1st, 2012 10:53 pm by staff report

ROGERSVILLE — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Sunday the remains of an infant found in the shed of a Hawkins County residence Friday are several years old.

Authorities believe they know the child’s identity but weren’t releasing that information Sunday. The remains were found by the current renter of the residence Friday morning behind a residence on Forest Lane just south of Rogersville off Route 66.

The TBI and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the child’s death, and the remains were sent to the Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City for autopsy.

Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said Sunday he is waiting for the autopsy results before his investigation can proceed, and he has no timeline for completion of the autopsy.

According to the TBI, no charges had been filed as of Sunday evening related to the infant’s death.
